You'd have to share links in PMs on IRC, it's risky business to do it publicly. And it couldn't be on rizon or efnet I don't think.

i used to run a decent size channel on efnet.. a long ass time ago.. it was a hip hop video channel, and it was before the youtube era.. so that should give an idea as to how long ago that was.. im pretty sure Rap City was still on BET, and actually had good shit on it... before rappers went digital..

i have some mIRC knowledge, and can say i definitely wouldnt want illegal bots in the channel. we could all use fserves, or use extra computers/servers as bots, but it honestly sounds like a pain in the ass for people who have never used it. i remember trying to walk people through it back then, and its not something i would look forward to doing nowadays..

but for all i know, there are new bad ass scripts to use now that make everything easier. i believe i was using polaris at the time.. and it was still a bunch of bullshit to navigate through someone's folders, and set up your shit correctly.

dc++ has always looked promising, due to the ability to password your hub (same as irc) and choose who is able to come in, and how easy it is to click and view other users archives, but i wouldnt know where to begin.. lisanap mentioned Soulseek, but its been years since ive been on there.. and i can barely remember the app.. was that the one with a blue bird as the icon?

regardless the choice, im thinking actual details should be kept in PM for the time being. discussing it here is all good, but it should go to PM when it starts to get more specific.

not that we are doing anything major here, but i like my privacy as much as the next guy.

DC++ is good. Or AirDC as it is called nowdays. It's far more safer. But I don't know how to set up a hub. But maybe we could figure something out. I know Thor is good at things regarding AirDC

I just tried to explain IRC to someone the other day, and it is not something I relish doing often haha. I do have a private soulseek channel though, if anyone wanted to join. Or we could make our own channel, where fext and amatoxin are room ops.

how difficult is it to set up a room for us on soulseek, at least for the time being?

its been a while since ive used any site like that, is it comparable to dc++ as far as chat and browsing each others files? if so, it would be a good start.

Soulseek isn't a bad idea. I'm still partial to irc because it runs on unix. Does soulseek run on nix systems

That's how my Soulseek looks. It wouldn't take me but a minute to start a room.

no. i plan on posting here still, that room is going to serve as a "perk" for being an active member here. people are greedy lazy dicks, in general, so posting albums on here is only going to encourage that shit.. as soon as we took the links down, more people started posting here almost immediately. this was never intended to be a piracy site, but more of a spot for underground hip hop fans to discuss almost unheard of rappers, put like-minded onto some of the harder to find music out there, and to share unreleased/rare underground albums within a small group. we try to put the word out about the hungry underground artists out there that really do deserve to be heard.

the plan, i believe, is to keep the forum rolling to see where it goes. this shit is all tadpole right now.


lisanap, hook up a soulseek room, message details. id like to check it out.

1.) Download the newest build of SoulseekQT here: http://www.soulseekqt.net/news/node/1
2.) Set up a username and password.
3.) On the right side of the program, there is a list of chat rooms. Organize it by name, and scroll down to "H".
4.) Join the Hip Hop Hurray room.
5.) At the top of your Soulseek window, there's a button that says "auto-join". Click that, then whenever you open Soulseek, it will put you in our room.

Anyone can join. Just double click it on the room list on the right. So far, I'm the only one idling the room

can the channel be passworded? if not, it kind of defeats the purpose 


EDIT: installed to check it out, but no hip hop hurray room existed. i created a room named 'HHH' and checked the box that says "private"... how do you password the room? if you cant password, how would i go about inviting you all in? and lastly, we would need someone idling 24/7 to keep this room open, correct?

If I can get my os reinstalled today I can idle 90 percent of the time.

Skype isn't private enough and has a backdoor built into it specifically for spying purposes.
As for private rooms, there's no password, when you make a private room, you're the operator of the room, and you have to invite people in. You can make additional people room operators though also.

Word. I'm all set. If we can make the room private and invite users from the forums who reach the posting rules or whatever we decide. Just have them pm a room op on here and we can invite them. I van edit my op to detail the soulseek info.
