I actually really liked most of this album. It's no Movies for the blind, but it's way better than Depart from Me.

just gave it a listen, and youre right.. shit aint bad at all. sounds like a movies/depart hybrid... which works somehow. im going to give it a better listen tomorrow at work, but its definitely better than his last album..

this october has been a hell of a month for underground hip hop releases...

Movies... is a classic. Hell's Winter was aight. Depart from me was shit. This on is his best album since Movies.. for sure. It's got the same darkness as Movies.. but still some fresh new sound to not "re-hash" the classic. I like how he teamed up with Mighty Mi to do this. Mighty Mi definatly has evolved in a good way, even tho you can't beat the classics.

"sucked" is subjective. Everyone has different tastes. I liked 2 songs off DfM, but there's probably emo kids that liked the entire album.

it was so emo it was disgusting. emo is cages true colors anyway. drugged out cage on movies for the blind was cage hating his intrinsic nature

Cage = emo? Nah. he has been around since 1992. he was emo between the years 2004-2009. That's not much. Now he's going back to his roots. I think def jux and sobriety pushed him to take on a more serious side to fit in with the rest fo the guys. Now that he and mighty mi are back together he's back to his eastern conference style with a little deeper style of lyrecism (because he got older).

el-p, and def-jux, pretty much stood for doing your own thang, and doing what you enjoy, regardless of what the lamb flocks had to say about it. the label was home to some of the most abstract/creative rappers out there at the time. that whole label was full of weirdos.. weirdos that made good music. my guess is el-p told cage to be himself, and at that time "himself" was feeling pretty fucking emo. 'depart from me' was terrible.. especially to any actual fan of "retro" cage. with that said, "kill the architect" is actually a decent album.. good production, and cage has evolved and merged himself into a new version of his former self(s).

just my 2 cents.

Yes. I totally agree. I love Def Jux. It's just that I don't think Cage fit in there, and he probebly felt the same way. SO he probebly got drawn in to the style the rest of the label had and the outcome was "hells winter" and "depart from me".
