Aesop Rock [Opinions] Empty Aesop Rock [Opinions]

Post by PAhiphopFAN Mon May 05, 2014 5:47 pm

I've been trying to get into this dude's music for a minute now. I looove lyrical content, and this dude has plenty. But I can't decide if this dude is really dude or just really awful at rapping! Where is the thin line between spit some shit that makes people think, versus spitting some shit that only Aesop understands?! I read some lyrics on RapGenius, but only Aesop knows if that meanings are correct.

Half the time, you can understand what dude is talking about, the other half the time... wtf? And it doesn't help that he mumbles like a muthafucker!! So, what do y'all think?

one of my fav rappers even tho i dont really listen 2 his albums past labor days. skelethon was a bit less disapointing 2 me but i dont feel his new shit has the same magic. i think a big part of what made aesop so fresh to me was his delivery & how naturally sounded onthe mic.. his new albums the lyrics are more or less the same but lack enthusiasm and his voice tone kinda remains flat i guess. (maybe that what u mean by mumbling) also i have a love, hate thing with el p. i dont really care to hear aesop on el p beats or people like cage either 4 example. they dont match aes flow the way blockhead did.. i think diff people can find diff meaing in his music.

I was a fan, but I don't really feel him anymore. I dunno, he just seems boring and repetitive to me.

Even if i adopted the vocabulary of Aesop Rock himself i couldn't possibly put into words how incredibly formidable he is as a lyricist and rapper.

WOW. I'm kinda glad so many websites highlighted Eminem on there, so fans can indirectly look up who out-shined him. Fucking headlines talk about Drake & Eminem, but completely ignore the other top 2. Once again, the media disrespecting Canibus. Surprised to see CunninLynguists so high up on the list.

Shocked to see Whale and other whack-sters ranking higher than Gang Starr & KRS-One. I guess it's about the words being put together, rather than the words themselves. What did I learn here? To stay away from the bottom 2/5ths. Forever.

Yeah, I'm starting to find some songs that I like, and I'm starting to understand his style. For once, it's good to find something new that's positive instead of depressive like Jak and Gore.

Aesop Rock has easily one of the most unique and underrated flows, albeit similar to some of Jak's work but I remember reading somewhere that Aesop listed Jakprogresso as one of his favorite artists. I tried to find the interview but I only found a reference to it here: http://forum.trshady.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=148469

@PA: haveing good vocab is immportant but ya what u do with it is what counts. mf doom is still pretty high up
on the list but id say hs more lyrical than wu tang. but his rhymes are actually pretty simple. so r u just getting into aesop rock. what songs do u like so far?

looks like fext from this forum posted that. id like to know where he read this also. i know aesop rock had some connection with johnny23 so id imagine aesop would at least know of jak.

Aesop is dope AF, his wordplay is unbelievably complex. Sometimes it can take me a couple of listenings to even get the theme of a song under all of the metaphor and layers.
